So my best friend and I had always been talking about travelling overseas together since we were 15 years old, and in 2013 we finally threw caution to the wind and travelled to PHUKET, THAILAND!
To be quite honest it was a last minute decision. We had put off travelling abroad for years (always using the excuse that we first need to save enough money), until we found ourselves nearing our 30s and having never left South Africa. Then we realised something (something which my parents have told me many a times), if you keep putting your dreams on hold waiting for the day you will have "enough money" to fulfil them then you may find yourself never living out your dreams because 9 out of 10 times you will not have "enough money" to do so. Why is this? Because with more money comes more responsibilities. Don't we know it? The higher you go up in the ladder the more your lifestyle gets an upgrade. And it's not necessarily resultant of irresponsible spending on your part, it's just a fact of life. And let's not forget the unexpected/unplanned expenses that occur along the way (especially if you own a car and/or home) which tend to derail us financially. So if you are waiting until you get that new job or the pay rise for you to be able to fulfil your dreams, then you may have to wait a very long time. So upon that realisation my bestie and I took a leap of faith and booked a trip to Thailand! We figured "Hey, we are young, unmarried and have no children, what on earth is holding us back?"
Honestly, it was one of the best decisions of my life and I do not have a single regret! The vacation could not have come at a better time. You know when you have one of those years that leave you emotionally exhausted and/or drained? 2013 was one of those years for me, and when you've had a particularly tough year sometimes ALL YOU NEED IS A HOLIDAY!
PHUKET, THAILAND
Thailand is absolutely spectacular! The beaches are beautiful. Although the weather was far too warm for my liking (I cannot handle humidity), our hotel was situated very close to Kata Beach so that was definitely a plus. There is so much to do in Phuket alone that one week went by so quickly and it felt as if there was still so much to explore! I definitely plan on returning to Thailand in the future, and hopefully, if God is willing, be able to travel to Bangkok whilst there.
So here are some highlights from my summer vacation in Phuket, Thailand:

There you have it! Memorable moments from my first overseas vacation! After you explore a country outside your own for the first time something inside you changes! It's an experience I cannot even begin to describe in words. It's a life-changing experience! A good one at that! After my trip to Thailand I was bitten by the travel bug, and I am so grateful to God for the fact that I will be GOING TO LONDON VERY SOON!
So stay tuned as I will be sharing more of my travel adventures with you!
Until next time
Luv
