MY FASHION DIARY (Part 1)- LONDON FASHION WEEK 2015 (EDELINE LEE SS16)

HELLO BLOGETTES!

Now a month ago I started with a series of blog posts titled "MY FASHION DIARY" where I provided you with exclusive INSIDE ACCESS to some of the HIGH END SOUTH AFRICAN DESIGNER SHOWS at MERCEDES BENZ FASHION WEEK CAPE TOWN 2015!
Well, my favourite time of the year has descended upon us AGAIN! Yes, it's FASHION WEEK! And specifically - LONDON FASHION WEEK 2015! It is that time of year where every savvy fashionista/socialite would give their last pair of Louboutins for the hottest ticket in town, and I was BLESSED to have received invites to some of the designer shows! So I will be, once again, giving you EXCLUSIVE ACCESS into the "money can't buy"/ "invite only" shows at London Fashion Week in this series of blog posts titled MY FASHION DIARY.
EDEL'INE L'EE
Edeline Lee is a Canadian-born but London-based designer. Her fashion "resume" (if you so wish to call it) is quite impressive, and definitely set her on the path of high end design/fashion. She apprenticed in the studios of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano before working at Zac Posen in New York and as Head Designer for Rodnik in London. In 2013, she was commissioned by jeweller Cora Sheibani to design a collection on which to display her jewellery. This opportunity served as a catalyst towards her now international acclaim. Her designs are incredibly sophisticated and structured, and she makes use of feminine shapes and clean modernist lines.
Her Spring/Summer 2016 collection was definitely inspired and one can see why she's counted amongst the best in high end fashion. I loved the clean cut and simple lines, and the freshness of the colour. The venue, ELMS LESTERS PAINTING ROOMS in SOHO, LONDON provided the perfect backdrop for Edeline to showcase her collection.
I had the great opportunity to interview Edeline after the presentation of her Spring/Summer 2016 line below is the transcript of the interview:
Me: "Congratulations on your collection, it was amazing. What inspired your Spring/Summer 2016 line?
Edeline: "I started looking at the paintings of Richard Diebenkorn, and he works a lot with paints and colour. He had a whole series called 'The Ocean Park Series'. And so I had this kind of vision in my mind, I have never been there, of what that is of the California coastline and the sense of feeling I got from it...in a way it was academic as it involved the study if colour and how to divide it and piece it together, but in another sense its fun.."
Me: "It really does come out with the colour. So what inspired the choice of venue?"
Edeline: "I was working with my PR Agency who has to find the venues for the designers...but I find this venue very evocative...it used to be a set painting, very Edwardian with the backdrop so I think its still exactly the way it was and its very beautiful. And then there is a room in the end with the painters tools and they kind of fit with the whole vibe...
Me: "It is very beautiful. And then I notice that the hair and makeup was quite simple, is it because you wanted the focus to be on the clothes?"
Edeline: "It was very simple but you will notice the touch of lilac and it worked with the coral colour. So it was simple...but not too simple either.
Me: "Thank you so much for your time and congratulations once again on your collection. We hope you open your stores in South Africa sometime in the future"
Edeline: "I would love to, my brother spends a lot of time in Africa. Mostly Kenya though, so I will visit one day."
