The World through the Lens of an African Princess: MY FASHION DIARY (Part 5)

And so my series of posts titled "MY FASHION DIARY" continue. It was LONDON FASHION WEEK two weeks ago and I was blessed to have received invites to a few designer shows. Over the next few posts I will be providing EXCLUSIVE DETAILS into some of the shows/presentations I had the pleasure of attending.

Rein is a woman's fashion label founded by Rebecca Morter and Gemma Vanson in 2013, who met whilst studying at London College of Fashion. Both Rebecca and Gemma gained invaluable experience prior to starting their own label - Rebecca having worked for Alexander Wang, and Gemma having worked for Christopher Raeburn. Their label has garnered a lot of success in such a short space of time having being worn by some of the world's most influential celebrities including Lady Gaga, Eve, Cheryl Cole, Charlie XCK, Alexandra Burke and Lisa Maffia.

The presentation itself - Panopticon - was also very different. It was more of a performance piece with models walking around taking pictures of each other whilst simultaneously saying lines such as "I don't like the way people look at me" but still taking selfies of themselves and with one another. I found Rein's presentation so clever as it highlighted the current "selfie culture" in our society where we are obsessed with taking pictures of ourselves and putting those pictures up on social media for all to see and hoping for all to "like", yet in the same breath we don't like it when the same pictures are being criticized on social media. We crave attention yet scorn it at the same time. Very thought provoking. The set-up of the presentation also allowed guests to walk among the models and take selfies with the models.
