HELLO BLOGGETTES!!!
It's SUMMER IN ENGLAND!! It is not only the time when the social season comes alive, but it is also the perfect weather for playing sports!! From tennis, golf, squash, badmington, even polo, and one of my personal favourite - CROQUET!
CROQUET
Croquet is a quintessential ENGLISH SPORT! It dates back to 1868 when the ALL ENGLAND CROQUET CLUB was formed at WIMBLEDON, LONDON. There are two theories as to the history of the game: the first theory is that it was first introduced to Britain from France during the rein of Charles II of England and was played under the name of paille-maille or pall mall. The second theory is that the rules of the game arrived from Ireland in the 1850s.
However, its origin is irrelevant. It nevertheless became a highly popular social pastime in England during the 1800s.
How is croquet played? The game involves hitting wooden balls with a mallet though hoops embedded in a grass playing court.
I have had the pleasure of indulging in a few games of croquet myself :)
